Ash Kitchen, Widnes

The kitchen area had two clearly defined walls that could be utilised when designing the kitchen, on one side of the kitchen there is a large chimney breast which needed to be considered in the design. The homeowners chose a painted ash shaker door and white Corian worktops.

After looking at several design options it made most sense to install floor to ceiling cupboards either side of the chimney breast with a set of protruding cupboards and drawers in front of the mantel. The mantel is the perfect place to position the cooking hob as the extra depth is perfect for the extractor fan as well as storing cooking essentials. We wanted to keep the oven close to the hob and therefore decided to install this in the floor to ceiling cupboard next to the hob. The protruding cupboards are a real feature within the space and to finish this off we installed rounded newel posts on each corner to soften the edges and add style to the space.

On the opposite side of the room we installed a long run of bottom cupboard and some top cupboards where possible. This combination gave the best mix of worktop space and storage. The white Corian worktops worked well with the painted doors and are easy to clean and maintain which is ideal for busy family life.

With the shaker doors giving a nod to the traditional we installed a traditional style door knob and drawer pull which work well with this style of door. The finished result is a fantastic kitchen that works well for family life and suits the age and style of the property perfectly.
