Slab and modern kitchens
Flat slab doors in gloss, matt, wood effect or painted finishes. Slab is the most flexible door we sell, from budget-friendly vinyl to lacquered gloss, and it suits modern and contemporary kitchens alike.
A slab door is a flat panel with no frame. It is the plainest door there is, which makes it the most adaptable. In black matt with brass handles and a quartz worktop it looks modern. In walnut effect with a white worktop it looks warm and practical. With a painted finish and oak shelving it sits happily in a contemporary family room. We have supplied and fitted a great many slab kitchens because they are easy to live with and easy to keep clean.
Finishes
Our slab doors come in painted, acrylic and coloured board with a 3mm edge band for a hard-wearing edge. We also offer vinyl, foil, 3D edge and timber finishes, in gloss, matt and woodgrain. That range means we can fit a slab kitchen to most budgets without limiting the look.
- Painted: any RAL or BS colour, in gloss or matt

Modern and contemporary, without the labels
Modern kitchens are about simple lines and hiding things away: integrated appliances, minimal hardware and few materials. Contemporary kitchens borrow some of that and mix in warmer or more traditional touches, such as wood worktops, open shelving or a range cooker. You do not need to pick a label. Tell us how you want the room to feel and we will suggest doors, handles and worktops. Slab doors also come in handleless versions if you want no handles at all.
Slab kitchens we have fitted
- Huyton: matt black slab doors with a gold-veined quartz waterfall island and brass fittings
- Liverpool: walnut effect slab in a C-shaped layout, with a square-edge white worktop and black glass sink, hob and extractor
- Liverpool: blue high-gloss slab with a 3D edge, black granite effect worktops and pull-out corner storage
- Liverpool: grey gloss slab with sparkle white Corian worktops and full-height units built to a bespoke height
- Liverpool: gloss white slab with curved doors and pelmets, supplied only and pre-assembled for the client to fit
Colour, light and the design visit
Colour choice matters more with slab doors, because there is no frame or profile to break it up. The natural light in your room will change how a colour looks, so we recommend a home design visit. We look at the room, bring samples and then draw a 3D plan so you can see it before you commit. There are slab kitchens on display in our showroom, along with a large wall of sample doors and over 100 handles.
Built to fit
Because we make our own carcasses in Kirkby, we can build floor-to-ceiling units that stop just short of the ceiling, curved end units, and cabinets that work around posts left over when two rooms are knocked together, as we did in a Bootle kitchen.

Questions we’re often asked
Gloss or matt: which is easier to live with?
Both wipe clean. Gloss reflects light and makes a room feel brighter, but shows fingerprints and smears more. Matt hides marks better and feels calmer, but can show greasy marks near the hob if not wiped. Look at both in our showroom under different light before deciding.
Are vinyl slab doors a false economy?
Not if you choose well. Vinyl and foil doors are a good-value way to get a clean modern look, and they come in many colours and woodgrains. Painted and lacquered doors cost more but can be touched up, and they handle heat and steam better near ovens. We will explain the trade-offs for your room.
What affects the price of a slab kitchen?
Mainly the door finish, the number and type of units, full-height larders, curved or bespoke-size units, the worktop and the appliances. Vinyl and coloured board sit at the lower end, painted and lacquered gloss at the higher end. We give a guide price after the survey and can suggest swaps.
Can you supply a slab kitchen for my builder to fit?
Yes. We supply kitchens to builders, joiners and DIYers. Units come pre-assembled from our workshop and worktops can be pre-cut, including joints and sink cut-outs. We draw the plan and list every component, so your fitter has everything they need.
