Made in our Kirkby workshop
Our carcasses, panels and worktops are made in our own workshop next to the showroom in Kirkby. You can see your units being built, and we can make them to any size.
Most kitchen companies order their cabinets from a factory in standard sizes. We make ours. Every carcass for our kitchens and bedrooms is built from scratch in our workshop on the Kirkby industrial estate, next door to the showroom. It is the main reason we developed our own range, Cleveland Bespoke, and it is the thing our customers notice most.
Why we make our own
Off-the-shelf carcass systems come in fixed sizes, and ordering anything special takes weeks. Kitchens are rarely standard. There is a boiler to box in, a pillar left from a knocked-through wall, a chimney breast or a ceiling that slopes. Cutting and adjusting cabinets on site is slow and weakens them. We solve those problems in the workshop, before anything arrives at your home.
A better carcass
We build our carcasses to a higher standard than you find on the high street. The main difference is the front edge: all of our carcasses are lipped with a 3mm edge band, much thicker than standard, so they stand up to years of knocks. The same system is used for our wardrobe carcasses and internals.
Our workshop
Over the years we have invested in the machinery to build complete kitchens and bedrooms in-house:
- CNC machines for accurate, repeatable cutting and drilling
- Panel saws for carcasses, end panels and plinths
- An edge banding machine for our 3mm edges and one-off panels
- Paint technology for painted doors and colour matching
- A worktop centre for joints, cut-outs and edge banding
- An assembly shop with a lean process for building kitchens quickly
What we make and what we buy in
We make the carcasses, panels and plinths, and cut the worktops. For doors, hinges, drawer systems and other components we work with established suppliers including Blum, JJ Ormerod, Hills Panels and Uform, and we combine their doors with our own carcasses. That gives you a very wide choice of door styles on a carcass we know is built properly.
Pre-assembled before delivery
Our kitchens are assembled in the workshop before delivery. That saves fitting time, keeps your house tidier and cuts cost. On one Liverpool housing development we surveyed five finished houses, built every cabinet and cut every worktop in Kirkby, and the fitters only needed to fix units to the wall, fit panels and connect appliances.
Made to the millimetre
Because we make everything to order, we can build to the exact size of your room. Recent examples include a gloss white kitchen in Bootle built around posts left by a knocked-through wall, wardrobes angled around a window in Woolton, and loft furniture shaped to a pitched ceiling in Liverpool. Customers are welcome to see their units being made.
Supply only and trade
If you are a builder, joiner, kitchen fitter or DIYer, we can supply units, doors, worktops or a complete kitchen, assembled and ready to fit. Questions we’re often asked
Can I see my kitchen being made?
Yes. The workshop is next to the showroom, and customers are welcome to see their units being built. Ask when you book your visit and we will arrange a good time. It is also a good way to see the difference our 3mm edge banding makes compared with a standard carcass.
Do bespoke sizes cost more?
Every carcass we sell is made to order in our workshop, so a unit at an odd width is built the same way as a standard one rather than specially ordered from a factory. Very unusual shapes, such as angled or curved units, take more work and are priced accordingly. The guide price after your survey includes them, so there are no surprises.
Do you supply the trade?
Yes. We supply builders, joiners, kitchen fitters and developers with units, doors, worktops and complete kitchens, assembled and ready to fit. What are your carcasses made from?
